Rainy day photos

It has been raining all weekend and most people want to stay inside and not get wet when it rains but I thought it would be a good idea to go out and try to get some photos. I went out and noticed that a lot of plants had water drops left on them and even though that is a very basic picture I took it because every photography needs a photo like that. The other picture is of a small bee or wasp i'm not sure which, was on a flower and it didn't fly away so I got a picture of it. I used shutter at 640 aperture at 5.6 and ISO auto.

American Goldfinch

When I can downstairs today I was putting my laptop in my backpack and i looked out the front window and saw that there was a male and female American Goldfinch outside eating the flowers so i got my camera and started taking pictures of them from inside through the window which is what you see in the first photo int eh second photo i had went outside on my front porch and only the female was left sitting on the thing the vines grow up and it looked nice with its back facing me and its head turned to me. I used Shutter 200 aperture 5.6 and ISO on Auto.

Catbird

When I first heard the name catbird I thought it was some terrible pun. But in realty it's not it is a real live bird that makes a meowing sound as its call. I took this picture at the visitors center In Rondeau at the bird feeders they had set up.  I used shutter 500 aperture 5'6 and ISO on auto.

Red Admiral Butterfly

The Red Admiral is the name of the butterfly in this picture. Most the time I prefer to take pictures of birds because I find them more interesting but when i was at Rondeau i saw this butterfly sitting on some dead grass and I decided to try to get the closest picture I could of it and it seemed to work out. I used 500 shutter, 5'6 aperture and ISO on auto.

Blue jay

Here is a blue jay. This is my first ever picture of a blue jay so I was pretty excited to see a blue jay first of all and then getting a picture of one was even better. I like in this picture how you can see the tail clearly and it makes the blues pop out even more. This was taken just outside the visitor center at Rondeau. I used 500 shutter, 5'6 aperture and ISO on auto.

Downy Woodpecker

In Rondeau there's a visitors center just like in most other parks around here. At the visitor center they had set up bird feeders to get birds to come to the people instead of people going to the birds. They had many different bird feeders set up. They had hummingbird feeders, ones full of seed, ones full of nuts and everything in between. The Downy Woodpecker in this photo was on a bird feeder full of nuts of some short. It was an overcast day that is why the background is grey because I used a low aperture at 5'6 to blur it out and a shutter of 500 and ISO at auto.  \

Probationary Warbler

This is a picture of a Probationary Warbler. They are a rare bird species with not many in Canada but a lot in the USA. My dad's friend that we went with to Rondeau said that he has been coming to Rondeau for 25 years and had never seen that many of this bird in the same spot. We were on a trail, on a board walk with a sign up for the bird and we were reading the sign and then one bird appeared then another and so forth until there was 5 of them at the same time which is something not many people get to see. My dad's friend said people come from all over just to get a glace at this bird and here I am first time at the park not even knowing about this bird and being able to see 5 at the same time. My camera setting were 500 for shutter, 5'6 for aperture and ISO on auto.

Yellow warbler

At Rondeau I saw many different types of birds some rare(which i'll be posting in the coming days) and some not so rare but I still had never seen them before. This is a yellow warbler. Around my house we get house sparrows, chickadees, cardinals and juncos in the winter plus some random birds here and there but they never stay for long. To see a yellow warbler a type of bird iv'e never seen before was exciting for me it meant another bird that I could tick off my list on birds I have seen. The settings were the same as yesterdays photo, shutter at 500, aperture at 5'6 and ISO on auto. I'm using a 300 mm lens with IS to take these photos.

Columbine

Today I went down to Rondeau Provincial park on the shore of lake Erie. We went to see the many different types of birds that stop over there for food during there spring migration. I will be posting more photos of the birds later on in the week but for now enjoy this photo of a wild columbine. I used a shutter speed of 500, aperture of 5'6 and had set my ISO on auto because of the quick changes of light that was happening

Cardinal in spring

In my front yard beside the magnolia tree we have a red bud tree which comes out in bright pink blossoms each spring for about a two week period and birds seem to like the tree most during that time of year. There was a male cardinal in the tree rubbing its beak against the bark on the branch it is sitting on. I used my 300mm lens at full zone to capture this photo my aperture was low because I like the effect it has on the photos, it was around 5'6 and my shutter was 250 with ISO at 200.

Magnolia blossum

The magnolia tree in my front yard hasn't always been the best. Every year it seems we have this big wind storm just as the blossoms are coming out. This year tho we did not have that big wind storm and i was able to get a picture of the blossom before it turned ugly which it always seem to do. I used a low aperture of 5'6 to make the background all blurred out and an ISo of 200 and shutter speed of 250
