Doe Lake Trail In Frontenac Provincial Park

I wanted to get one more large hike in before winter, so I went back to Frontenac Provincial Park. I had been once already this year, back in September. That time I went solo, as my wife was away on a trip. This time, I was able to bring my wife on the hike. We got a day pass from the Ottawa Public Library (check out your local library — they have so much stuff!) and booked our DVP over the phone, as I couldn’t figure out how to book one with the library pass online. We left Ottawa around 8:45am and got to the parking lot in the park just before 11. We parked at the Salmon Lake parking lot. From there, we hiked down the Corridor Trail until it met up with the Dedication Trail, which we went South on. At the end of that trail, we turned right and continued down towards Doe Lake. From there, we went around Doe Lake and met up with the Corridor Trail again, which took us back to the Salmon Lake parking lot. In total, it was 13.25 km in length and took us 3 hours and 36 minutes to comple...

Hunting Camp 2023

My yearly trip up to my family's "Hunt Camp" was last weekend. It was a great time seeing the family and seeing the beautiful landscape that it sits on.  Main Lake at the Camp Reflections in the Lake Reflations on the other side of the lake A scenic lookout on the way home Rockingham Church on the way home

Nova Scotia Day 7: Lunenburg

The seventh day of our trip started out in the fog. Which made for some rather nice photos. The day was spent in Lunenburg and the surrounding area. View of the LaHave river from our BnB. View in the other direction from our BnB. Toba's BnB is where we stayed for the second half of our trip. I would highly recommend it.  Hirtle's Beach in the morning mist. Fishing shack on a rock at Blue Rocks near Lunenburg. Blue Rocks near Lunenburg. Coastline at Blue Rocks. I saw this Lupine flower all over Nova Scotia, from highway ditches to people's gardens. The Bluenose 2 is probably the most famous ship in Canada. One of the many historic houses in Lunenburg.

Hunting Camp 2021: Reflections

My family's annual reunion trip up to the Hunt Camp as we call it was a little soggier (due to two rainstorms) than normal, however, it was a lot warmer. This is the first time in over 3 years that we were able to get together for a reunion here due to Covid and other circumstances. Sadly due to the rainstorms, the night sky was clouded over which meant no photos of stars or the moon, which have historically always been great up at the camp. Instead, I needed to settle for some nice scenery photos which never disapoint. I personally think the last two photos are the best but that is just my thoughts.  Looking through the channel to the next lake. Reflections of a fishing bobber. Bass Island.  Evening calmness before the storm. Evening calmness part 2. Morning reflections. Is this the west coast? or central Ontario. Morning commute.

Swallows by the River

The Thames River flows through a small village in Perth County called Motherwell. Near this village is a dirt road that runs perpendicular to the river that I always love driving down, as it has great views of the river and lots of birds to see. The day that I took theses photo was exactly one of those days.  The first photo of this rather short post is of a swallow. I am not sure what subspecies of swallow this is but I was excited and happy to grab a photo of one, as normally they fly away as soon as I step out of the car. This swallow was sitting on a telephone wire with two other birds. I tried to get a good photo of all three birds but it just wouldn't work out. The second and last photo of this post is a view I have posted before, however, I still love the view as it makes for great photos. There used to be an old steel bridge over the Thames River here. The bridge was removed due to lack of use and high maintenance costs. Now it is a great place to go to find some peace and ...

Hunting Camp: Night

This is part 2/4 in the series called Hunting Camp. This part of the series focuses on the stars and the night sky. The Hunting Camp is just south of Algonquin park which means that the night sky is amazing. Without any city lights to interfere it is possible to see almost everything.  The first photo is just a normal star picture that I took overlooking the main lake that we use. The bright star down near the bottom right is Jupiter, you are also able to see Saturn and Mars in this picture too but they are over on the bottom left and not as bright. It is also possible to see the milky way on the left side of the picture too. The bright glow is what I think is city lights coming from possibly Bancroft or maybe even as far away as Ottawa or Toronto but I'm not too sure. The second picture is a star trails one. This one photo is over 200 photos stacked on top of each other using StarStaX. I had to crop this photo on the left due to the sheer amount of planes. This...
