During this week I managed to get out and take some photos of the city I've called home for the past year and a bit. I managed to get out during golden hour (right before the sun sets where everything looks golden) to take some pictures which is something I can't often do due to school. The first picture is of the courthouse in Peterborough. The courthouse sits on top of a large hill in the city and has a very nice walk up to the courthouse. The second photo was taken from the Hunter Street bridge which crosses the Otonabee River. It is overlooking the river and the fall colors that are just showing up on the trees. The third photo is of an Anglican church that sits on the edge of the same hill that the courthouse sits on. The fourth picture is the path you would take to get up to the courthouse. Autumn has been slow to come for much of Southern Ontario. It has been overly warm the past couple weeks but it is just now starting to cool down which means the leaves on the trees are showing signs of change. This past weekend was Thanksgiving in Canada which meant that I went home. Well, I was only home for a short visit I still managed to go for a walk in the woods and grab some pictures. The first picture shows the reflection of the trees on the water. You are able to see the slight change in color on one of the trees. The second picture is of a dragonfly resting on a plant beside the trail. The third picture is taken from the bench in the first picture. It is just the other side of the lake showing the reflection of the trees and the pond. The last picture is on a country road on the way back home. It shows that the leaves on the maples are just startign to change.

I would like to apologize for not posting in over a month. I have been busy with school and didn't actually take my camera out of its bag until last Monday. I am also aware I normally post on Sunday but because I haven't posted in so long here is a surprise Thursday post. I will post next Sunday again. Here are some pictures I found on my memory card that I never got around to posting. The first is a sailboat moored to a buoy.  This was taken when we drove down a road looking for a beach to go and explore. The second is a harbor walk in the town of Charlottetown. I like it because it is nicely framed by trees and the light is really nice. 

This is the last blog post from my vacation to PEI.  This post contains photos from the Greenwich portion of Prince Edward Island National Park.The first picture is of a Catholic church near the national park. This church is rather large for the small community it serves. The second picture is of a dragon fly sitting on the boardwalk of a trail. The next three photos are of the floating boardwalk going over a pond located in the national park.This pond is fresh water but because of its location so close to the sea, it sometimes gets flooded with sea water. The sixth photo is of the boardwalk ending and the path through the woods starting. The last picture is from the beach near my cottage. It shows off the red rocks of the island. The next blog post will be next Sunday.

This is the second out of 3 or 4 blog posts from my vacation to Prince Edward Island. This post starts off with a picture of the beach at low tide. You can see the water reflecting the sky, and are able to see the cliffs and pine forests above the beach. The second picture is a lighthouse located in Prince Edward Island National Park. This lighthouse is located on the beach, next to the port. The third picture is of the dunes located in the national park. These dunes are sensitive and you are not allowed to walk on them. The fourth picture is of the endangered Piping Plover. You can see the reflection of the bird in the water as it is flying by. The fifth picture is a lighthouse located near Victoria-by-the-Sea. The sixth picture is taken near the lighthouse but is looking across the bay to the farmer's fields. The last picture is a building in Charlottetown that served as the towns liquor storage during prohibition times. Next blog post will be up next Sunday....

For the past two years, my family and I have been going on vacation during the last week of August. This year we went to Prince Edward Island (PEI) for the vacation. We are renting a cottage on the south shore of the island, where the red sand beaches are found. The first photo is of the beach and the cliffs at the cottage that I am staying at. This was taken near high tide so the water level is high, which means there is less beach to see. The second photo is of a cove near the Blockhouse Point Lighthouse, which is actually what the third photo is of. The Blockhouse Point Lighthouse is owned by the Canadian government and is a fully automatic light used by ships for navigation into Charlottetown. This is the second oldest lighthouse on PEI and it basically looks now how it did when it was first built. The fourth picture is of an old building in downtown Charlottetown. This past week has not been a very eventful week for me photography wise. That is why the blog post is lackluster, and will only feature two pictures. The first picture is of a sunflower in my backyard. This sunflower is strange because it does not turn to follow the sun as it moves through the sky. The second photo is a long exposure of lights on a bike. Lights had been attached to the bike spokes and it turned into a pretty good picture. I think that the blue/purple lights look like weird water sprinklers on the road. I used a shutter of 8 seconds, F/11 and ISO 400 for the long exposure picture.

Near the cottage I went to last week is a town called Campbellford. It's just like every other small town in Ontario. That means that it has a nice downtown with restaurants, stores, and a really good bakery. This town is unique because it has a Provincial Park right beside it. That park is called Ferris Provincial Park. The park is known for a suspension bridge that is pictured below in the second picture. The bridge crosses the Trent River which is where Ranney falls is located on. The falls are pictured below on the third picture. In order for boats to go around Ranney Falls, the boats have to go through the Trent-Severn Waterway. The boats have to go through locks number 11 and 12 which are each about an impressive 7 meters tall. The picture of the lock is the first picture in this post.

This past week I some how managed to get three days off in a row. That meant I could take a little vacation up to my aunt's cottage, after a quick stop in Peterborough to drop stuff off at my house for next year. The trip to the cottage was much needed. As I now feel recharged and ready for another month of work until I go back to school. In the first two pictures, you are able to see a Great Blue Heron. One of it standing on a log, and one of it taking off from the log. I got these pictures by sneaking up on it in a canoe. The third picture is just a classic Canadian shield picture. Pine trees and rocks reflecting on a lake. The Fourth picture is a rather large beaver pond at sunset. I used my ND filter for this photo. The fifth photo is of the Milky Way. This was my first time actually seeing the Milky Way. I have spent my life in cities, and because of that, you can't actually see the Milky Way as a result of the light pollution. Back in May, I planted a garden with seeds that are supposed to attract bees. I'm not sure if the garden is attracting them or not. The garden has large amounts of poppy flowers including the two down below. I have seen a couple smaller bees at the poppies. My garden has only recently started to flower in the past two weeks. I am hoping for more flowers for greater variety in color and species in the garden for the future.The last photo in this post is a Monarch Butterfly which I sported as I was in my front yard. It stayed still on the flower and allowed me to get very close up to it until it flew away.
