This past weekend I had the chance to go to Petroglyphs Provincial Park. The park has the largest collection of First Nation petroglyphs in Ontario. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take pictures of the actual Petroglyphs which is why there isn't any in this post. I can promise you that they are breathtaking. After I went and saw the petroglyphs I went on a hike. The trail was just a loop that went around a lake and was a nice walk but there was a lot of bugs. The first picture is of the trail itself. The next two pictures are of the lake, each photo is from opposite sides of the lake. The remaining two photos are of a red squirrel that I was able to get a nice photo of.

It's the holiday long weekend here, which meant I didn't have to work Monday and instead was able to go on an adventure. We decided to go to Campbellford for the day. Campbellford is known for its suspension bridge and being part of the Trent Severn waterway. The first picture in this post is not actually from Campbellford but from right down my street. There is an osprey nest being built on one of the poles that are set up for them which is exciting. I pass by this pole every day on my way to work so ill be able to check the progress of the nest and soon the babies. The following two pictures are from the Trent Severn Waterway. The first of the two pictures is looking down the waterway towards Trenton and the second picture is of lock 11 of the waterway which is very high. Today was the first weekend that my girlfriend was back in town so I wanted to do something rather than just sit around at home. We decided to go to Indian River Reptile Zoo but it was rather small and everything was behind glass so I couldn't get any pictures, plus I feel like taking pictures in zoos is cheating unless you show that the subject is in fact in a zoo. After the zoo, we decided to go to Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park which is just outside of Peterborough. It is just a day use only park and only has one trail going through it. The park itself is unique because when people were settling the area, the people who owned this land decided not to clear it. This has resulted in intact hardwood forests with very large stands of Hemlock and Maple. The park is also on top of a drumline so it has good views of the surrounding forest. Every year the City of Stratford has its swan parade. This is when the swans move from their winter house down to the Avon River. I was unfortunately not in Stratford when the parade happened. To make up for this and because I have a week off before I start my summer job. I decided to come home before I start work. During this week which as only just started, I was able to take some pictures of the swans. The swans that live on the Avon River and mute swans. The first picture is of a swan flapping its wings. The city clips the swan's wings so that they are unable to fly away but that doesn't stop them from trying. The second picture is of the same swan as before but just cleaning itself. You are able to see a slight reflection of the swan in the water. The third and final picture is a portrait of a swan. Exam season is upon me and that results in not wanting to study and me picking up my camera again, dusting it off, filling up the birdfeeder to try to get some shots. That is exactly what happened this weekend. I was sitting at home not wanting to study, I looked around my room and saw my camera and decided I wanted a picture to post. I started off taking some pictures of my houseplants and then tried dropping a berry in a glass of water but that did not work out well so I settled on the birdfeeder.  There are not as many birds in the neighboorhood I live in currently, in Peterborough as compared to Stratford but I think that is a result of the amount and type of trees around. The kinds of birds I do see are chickadees and they are not shy at all compared to the ones in Stratford. I waited outside for a couple minutes and one came and started to eat. A couple weekends ago me, my girlfriend, and my roommates went to Ottawa for the weekend. The reason for the trip was to see one of my photographs in the Museum of Nature. The story behind why one of my pictures is in the Museum of Nature in Ottawa dates back to September 2016 when I found out I had won the youth category for the Canadian Geographic Wildlife Photography of the Year contest. The prize pack for this contest included among other things that my photo would be on display in the Museum of Nature. Due to the Canada 150 celebrations, my photo wasn't displayed until the beginning of January 2018 and is on display until May 2018. The photo that is on display is the first photo in this blog post. The title of the photo is Slow and Steady. The photo features a snail moving along a rusty pipe. The second photo is of the outside of the museum before you walk in the main doors. This post is random as there is really no real theme to this post compared to the last one but these are just pictures I've taken recently. The first picture is my dog who was rolling around in snow out on my back deck. The next picture is from the hotel that I was staying at before I flew to the Dominican Republic. I like it because the suns rays were coming in through the hotel room window and the curtains there enhanced the colour even more.

Over the Christmas break, my family and I took a vacation to the Dominican Republic. We stayed in a town called Samaná. We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa. The resort was excellent, it had amazing rooms, great service, the food at the buffet was much better than the food at the A La Carte restaurants did. The pool and the beaches there were excellent as well.  Near the resort, there were two islands with walking bridges connecting them to the mainland. There was really no purpose to go to these islands as there was nothing to see but it offered nice views of the hotel and the town itself. The first picture is of the path through the island leading to the next bridge. It looks like a miniature jungle in my view. The next four pictures are showing off how the bridge looks and the architecture. They are also showing off the islands and how small they are. Since the first semester is over I was able to return home and have been able to take pictures again which I have enjoyed very much. The first picture is from Orleans which is a suburb near Ottawa. I was visiting my girlfriend and her family when I was there and we went out for a walk and stumbled upon this stream which was framed perfectly by the trees. The rest of the pictures are all from Stratford and more specifically the lake in Stratford. The first picture from Stratford is just showing the path around the lake and the snowy landscape and semi-frozen lake. The next picture is the path that goes around the lake and it is meant to show just how many trees there are around the lake. The picture after that is displaying how the snow was covering the trees and in the picture, you can see the house and the reflection of it all on the water. The first real snow of the year has fallen and therefore it is time for first snowfall pictures. The first picture is of the cenotaph in Peterborough covered in snow. You are able to see the Canadian flag flying over the cenotaph. The second picture is the George Street United Church. I pass by this church every day and have never taken a picture until now. The third and final picture in this post is the doors to George Street United Church. I've always loved taking pictures of doors because each one is often unique and different. This one has iron hinges that spread onto the door and because it's near Christmas there are wreaths on the door as well.
