Rabbits and A Walk In the Woods

Recently there has been a family of rabbits that have moved into my backyard. There appears to be a male and a female, with the male rabbit slightly larger than the female. I'm not too sure which one is in the pictures but overall it is fairly cute. These pictures were taken one evening when they were out looking for food. I was able to walk right down to the grass and snap some photos, as the rabbit wasn't scared of my presence due to me being out when they are a lot of the time. This has allowed the rabbits to grow accustomed to me and my presence as they know I don't pose any threat.

This photo is of a female Ruby-Crowned Kinglet hence the lack of a ruby crown. I spotted this bird as I was walking along a portion of the Avon Trail near Stratford. It was only in the tree for a brief second before it flew away, but I was still able to capture this photo which I really like and have added to my portfolio which can be seen here

Bloodroot is native to the region where I live and normally comes out in bloom in the very early spring. I saw this clump of bloodroot as I was walking along the same portion of the Avon Trail that I saw the Ruby-Crowned Kinglet on. On both sides of the trail, there were large areas of the forest floor with lots of bloodroots out in bloom.

This brilliantly colourful little butterfly is known as a Milbert's Tortoiseshell. I really don't know much about this kind of butterfly but I do know it has very vibrant colours. I found this butterfly flying around the exit of the Avon Trail that I was on, but could not get close enough to get a close-up photo so this will have to do.

Godda and Booth Lake Trip Report: Algonquin Provincial Park Solo Trip

My longest back country camping trip this year was into Algonquin Provincial Park. I went from September 16-19, 4 days and 3 nights. Originally my plan was to stay until the 20th but circumstances forced me to change my original route. Originally, I had planned on going from the Shall Lake Access Point(17) to Godda Lake for one night, then head down to Boot Lake for two nights, up to Booth Lake for one night, then home. However, during my first day, I realized that I had overestimated my capability to portage with a 75 pound canoe, and I had planned too long of a route. I altered my plans and instead spent two nights on Godda Lake and one night on Booth Lake.  Day 1: I got to the access point at 11:10am and had everything unpacked and loaded into the canoe by 11:25am. I made my way through Farm Lake (which has super clear water) to the first portage into Kitty Lake. The portage was only 100M and was the first of the trip. It took 10 minutes to double carry. I was able to do t...

The Canadian, Vancouver-Toronto

The final part of my trip was taking ViaRail's Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto. This has been a bucket list trip for me as I've wanted to do this since I can remember, and it did not disappoint. The food on the train is quite good, with some meals being shown in this blog post. Lunch and dinner come with a soup or salad to start the choice of 4 mains and then dessert. The photo's are a mix from my Sony a6600 and Iphone, the Sony camera did not take good photos through the train windows so I had to resort to the Iphone which still wasn't the best, hence the reflections in some of the photos. Mountains and the Fraser River More mountains and the Fraser River The sleeper car I was in   A very fancy plate setting Rack of lamb to start the trip off Carrot cake cheese cake for dessert My berth for the next 4 nights Mt Robson Little trucks used to pull bagage The engines that powered the train Jasper post office Deadheaded equipment being dropped off Beef tenderloin for...

Morrow Lake-Back Country Camping

I went on my first solo back country camping trip this past weekend. It was quite the experience and I learned what to do and what not to do for next time. I had the whole lake to myself which was pretty sweet but on the other hand it kept raining on and off. Out of the 4 photos I like the waterfall one the most. The only downside is that the photo turned out a little hazy due to the mist coming off the waterfall and the fact that the forest was quite humid with all the rain. This just meant a fuzzy photo. I'm going to plan to go during a dryer period next time for an even better photo. Loon on the lake I was staying on. First view when you slip your boat in. Morrow Creek waterfall. An old barn with mist in the background.
