Mark S Burnham Provincial Park Part 2

Today on my day off I decided I wanted to go for a walk. I hadn't been on a walk for a while in Mark S Burnham so I decided to go there and it did not disappoint. At the park, I was able to see a number of different species and enjoy my walk all without getting eaten alive by bugs.  In the first photo, I had stumbled upon my second eastern garter snake of that day. I was unable to get a photo of the first snake I had seen, however, I was able to with this one before it disappeared under a log. The second photo in this post is of a rather odd tree in my opinion. The whole top of the tree is gone and only two or four branches remain on the entire tree. I had just taken this photo as I thought it was a cool tree but when I looked at it later, the light was amazing. The third photo is of one of the many wood frogs that I had found well walking around they would just hop out of the way from my path and then disappear back into the leaves with their camouflage. The last three photos in this post are of a pair of hairy woodpeckers. I had stopped as I  heard a sound and was looking around for the bird that had made it when one of the woodpeckers appeared so I started snapping photos of it. The second one appeared soon after that and came to the same tree the first one was on before flying away. These two woodpeckers then continued to jump around and what looked like dancing for a couple of minutes well I watched. While this was happening I also noticed a hummingbird of some kind sitting just above me watching what was going on as well.

Godda and Booth Lake Trip Report: Algonquin Provincial Park Solo Trip

My longest back country camping trip this year was into Algonquin Provincial Park. I went from September 16-19, 4 days and 3 nights. Originally my plan was to stay until the 20th but circumstances forced me to change my original route. Originally, I had planned on going from the Shall Lake Access Point(17) to Godda Lake for one night, then head down to Boot Lake for two nights, up to Booth Lake for one night, then home. However, during my first day, I realized that I had overestimated my capability to portage with a 75 pound canoe, and I had planned too long of a route. I altered my plans and instead spent two nights on Godda Lake and one night on Booth Lake.  Day 1: I got to the access point at 11:10am and had everything unpacked and loaded into the canoe by 11:25am. I made my way through Farm Lake (which has super clear water) to the first portage into Kitty Lake. The portage was only 100M and was the first of the trip. It took 10 minutes to double carry. I was able to do t...

The Canadian, Vancouver-Toronto

The final part of my trip was taking ViaRail's Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto. This has been a bucket list trip for me as I've wanted to do this since I can remember, and it did not disappoint. The food on the train is quite good, with some meals being shown in this blog post. Lunch and dinner come with a soup or salad to start the choice of 4 mains and then dessert. The photo's are a mix from my Sony a6600 and Iphone, the Sony camera did not take good photos through the train windows so I had to resort to the Iphone which still wasn't the best, hence the reflections in some of the photos. Morrow Lake-Back Country Camping

I went on my first solo back country camping trip this past weekend. It was quite the experience and I learned what to do and what not to do for next time. I had the whole lake to myself which was pretty sweet but on the other hand it kept raining on and off. Out of the 4 photos I like the waterfall one the most. The only downside is that the photo turned out a little hazy due to the mist coming off the waterfall and the fact that the forest was quite humid with all the rain. This just meant a fuzzy photo. I'm going to plan to go during a dryer period next time for an even better photo. Loon on the lake I was staying on. First view when you slip your boat in. Morrow Creek waterfall. An old barn with mist in the background.
