The Milky Way

For the first time since Covid-19 hit in March 2020, I was able to go back up to Red Pine Camp on Golden Lake. I didn't really see much to photograph this time as all of the birds were high up in the trees and refusing to come down. So instead on my last night there, the clouds disappeared and I was able to capture this beautiful photo of the milky way over Golden Lake. With very little light pollution this was a great location for this type of photography.

Hunting Camp 2021: Reflections

My family's annual reunion trip up to the Hunt Camp as we call it was a little soggier (due to two rainstorms) than normal, however, it was a lot warmer. This is the first time in over 3 years that we were able to get together for a reunion here due to Covid and other circumstances. Sadly due to the rainstorms, the night sky was clouded over which meant no photos of stars or the moon, which have historically always been great up at the camp. Instead, I needed to settle for some nice scenery photos which never disapoint. I personally think the last two photos are the best but that is just my thoughts.  Looking through the channel to the next lake. Reflections of a fishing bobber. Bass Island.  Evening calmness before the storm. Evening calmness part 2. Morning reflections. Is this the west coast? or central Ontario. Morning commute.

Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles

In my backyard I recently had a family of Blue Jays move in. They seemed to be nesting in a neighbour's tree and would always come down to eat the seeds we put out for them. I had taken these photos a couple of weeks ago, but since then a third Blue Jay has appeared which makes me think they were successful in raising a family. I had seen on INaturalist that there had been a few sighting of Baltimore Orioles around town. This inspired me to cut up a couple oranges and set them out to see if I can get some in my backyard. After a couple of days without anything, I was almost set to give up when a group of three finally came one morning. I quickly found out that these birds are very skittish and are not a fan of being photographed. However, I still managed to take some okayish photos of these birds anyway.

My First Snowy Owl

My first Snowy Owl pictures. I think they turned out pretty good, I know they won't win any awards but I am still proud of them given the circumstances of the photo. I just got home for reading break for a week, and my family and I had gone out for lunch in a town nearby. As we were driving home I spotted a white ball of fluff sitting on top of a telephone pole and promptly made my dad pull over so I could get out and try to get a photo. I thought that like a hawk as soon as I had exited the car the bird would have flown away but instead it just sat there ignoring me the whole time I was taking its photo. It glanced down at me every now and then but nothing more than to see what I was doing, and to see if, in fact, I was still there. I decided I shouldn't push my luck and returned to the car to leave the bird be, but that was also due to the wind chilling me to the bone.  Here are two photos of the snowy owl that I took, on top of the telephone pole somewhere in Perth County...

Cuba Part 4

Welcome to the final blog post about my trip to Cuba. It has taken me almost two whole months to post all of the pictures I wanted to but I managed it. If you want to check out Part 1 , Part 2 or Part 3 just click the links. This part of my trip to Cuba will focus on a trip I took to Varadero which is the town closest to the resort and will include some pictures I took around the resort as well.  I am also trying something new by putting captions under each photo instead of explaining everything up here.      The first picture in this post is of a classic old Cuban car and a church I saw in Varadero. I thought this was a very Cuban picture with the church and the car together in one picture.    The two photos are of lizards I saw while talking around the town. I am not sure what the first species of lizard is in the first photo. The second lizard is called Allison's Anole.  The photo of the old black car I took as I liked...

Hunting Camp: Day 1

This is part one out of a three-part series I'm doing. Every year my moms side of the family goes up to what we call the Hunting Camp. No one actually hunts up there but in the past people did. The history of this camp goes back to my Granda who was one of four original owners of the Hunting Camp. The Hunting Camp is now owned by my uncle and each of the other three oldest sons of the original members. The reason we go up to the camp every year is to honour and remember my Granda and Grandma.  The reason this is a three-part series is just that even though I was there for about 24 hours I took so many pictures I can't fit them all into one blog post.  The first picture is taken from the dock overlooking the main lake that the camp is based on. This lake is the last of three lakes just Southeast of Algonquin Provincial Park. The second picture is showing the passage that connects the main lake to the one above it, which is just a bit of marshy area. The third picture is of...
